CMA- Certified Management Accountant
IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) is modernizing the CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) exam format to better reflect how today's finance professionals work. Beginning in the May/June 2026 window, the CMA exam will introduce Case-Based Questions (CBQs) alongside the traditional essay format. CBQs are short business scenarios (200-250 words) which are followed by six to seven questions including calculations, drag-and-drop, multiple-select, and numerical entry.Critical Timelines:Late January/early Feb 2026: Registration opens; change announced to candidatesMid-February 2026: Public Announcement of CBQsMay/June 2026 Exam: Candidates can choose essay OR CBQs – Final exam window in which essay questions are included.September/October 2026: CBQs become standard; essays are no longer included on the exam.

Course Prerequisite
Registering for the CMA exam is best suited for candidates with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (or an equivalent qualification) or those who already hold a professional certification. Detailed information on eligibility requirements for acquiring the certification title can be found in the attached handbook. Educational Qualification: To become a certified CMA, candidates must satisfy one of the following education requirements and submit verification of education within seven years of completing the CMA examination. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Professional Certifications Experience Qualification: Two continuous years of professional experience in management accounting or financial management This requirement may be completed prior to or within seven years of passing the examination. Professional experience is expected to be gained in full-time employment. However, continuous part-time positions of 20 hours per week meeting the definition of qualified experience will count toward this requirement at a rate of one year of experience for every two years of part-time employment.
