The short "open learning style" course offers professionals with non-financial backgrounds an overview of the role and significance of finance in business or other organizations. While the course does not delve into technical details, it encompasses fundamental principles and underlying concepts. Finance plays a pivotal role in any organization, and possessing basic knowledge and understanding is crucial for integrated functions. Participants will gain a solid foundation, enabling them to pursue advanced studies in finance and develop a heightened understanding of financial decision-making within their organizations.

Course objectives:

Upon the completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Understand the role of finance functions within the context of the modern business environment.
  • Use and interpret financial statement information.
  • Apply vertical, horizontal and ratio analysis to evaluate key financial statements.
  • Understand the roles and functions of financial institutions and markets.
  • Apply basic financial decision-making tools and techniques.
  • Conduct basic regression analysis to examine relationship of various key statement variables and forecast future relationship.

  • Making sense of financial statements information contents

  • Financial institutions and key concepts

  • Key financial tools and techniques including:
  • Financial arithmetic
  • Working capital cycle
  • Net present value and payback calculation of projects
  • Risk and uncertainty etc.

  • Statement of financial performance (income statement) – vertical, horizontal and ratio analysis of a real Qatari company
  • Statement of financial position (balance sheet) – vertical, horizontal and ratio analysis of a real Qatari company

  • Statement of cash flows – analysis using the appropriate tools
  • Basic regression analysis to understand relationship between key financial statement variables.
  • Basic financial analysis to forecast future financials.Other tools of valuation (if required)

Trainer’s Profile:

Dr. Hiba Ali Al-Saudi

Dr. Hiba Ali Al-Saudi is a Finance professional with extended Finance and Audit experience. She is currently the Chief Financial Officer and prior to that, she has led the founding of Finance and Internal Audit Departments in several companies in the State of Qatar. Dr. Al-Saudi is a certified public accountant (CPA) and a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). She has a PhD in Islamic Finance and Economy from Hamad bin Khalifa University in Qatar, and a Bachelor of Administrative Sciences and Economics, major in Accounting from Qatar University. Her research interests are Fintech, Blockchain Technology, sukuk and Social Finance with emphasis on waqf. Dr. Hiba Al-Saudi has several published papers that cover waqf, blockchain, fintech, mission-oriented innovation policy, sustainability and sukuk. Dr. Hiba Al-Saudi is a professional trainer in audit, finance and accounting and has also presented her work in several conferences and symposiums.
