Course Overview:

The professional communications course is a training workshop designed to help individuals improve their communication skills in a professional setting. The course will focus on developing skills for effective verbal and nonverbal communication, written communication, and oral presentations.

Course objectives:

  • Understand the principles of effective verbal and nonverbal communication and how they can be applied in a professional setting.
  • Develop the ability to ask open-ended questions and use active listening to engage in effective conversations with colleagues and clients.
  • Learn how to write clear, concise, and professional messages in various formats, such as emails, memos, and reports.
  • Learn how to deliver oral presentations in a professional setting.

Course Structure:

The course will be delivered by an industry-experienced trainer who is well-versed in both theory and industry best practices.

Target Audience:

  • Employees in a corporate setting who need to improve their communication skills to better collaborate with colleagues, build relationships with clients, or deliver presentations to stakeholders.
  • Managers and supervisors who need to develop their communication skills to lead and motivate their teams, delegate tasks effectively, and manage conflicts and difficult conversations.
  • Entrepreneurs or small business owners who need to communicate effectively with clints, vendors, or investors to grow their business and achieve their goals.

Program Content:

Part 1 – Professional Verbal and Nonverbal Communication

This interactive session teaches participants the language and basic skills that will help them contribute to meetings and negotiations effectively. As all the activities are work-related, the participants will be able to immediately apply in the workplace what they have learned.

Focus:
  • Master language and phrases for meetings and negotiations within a professional context.
  • Present your argument clearly and concisely
  • Speak for impact
  • Improve your negotiation skills and work towards an agreement

Part 2 – Professional Writing

During this session, participants will gain practice in writing effective business e-mails for specific purposes (requests, complaints, apologies etc) and master general writing and editing techniques in various genres through discussions and exercises. As all the activities are work-related, the participants will be able to immediately apply in the workplace what they have learned.

Focus:
  • Write clear, brief, and to-the-point emails
  • Write for impact – achieve the required outcome
  • Understand your reader and adapt your tone to suit your audience
  • Learn the format, register and organization of a business e-mail
  • Learn the expectations of professional writing

Part 3 – Oral Presentations

During this session, participants will develop the skills and techniques necessary for effective oral presentations. As all the activities are work-related, the participants will be able to immediately apply in the workplace what they have learned.

Focus:
  • Learn how to plan and structure a presentation based on your audience and purpose
  • Learn how to engage your audience
  • Learn how to use visual aids effectively
  • Learn how to handle questions and challenges confidently

Instructor Profile:

Dr. Nabilah Naji Khachab

Dr. Nabilah works in QFBA – Northumbria University as Foundations Programme Leader.

She directs academic leadership, and management and assessment for the English Foundations Program. Working closely with the Dean of Academic Affairs at QFBA in Qatar and collaborative partners at Northumbria University in the UK. She delivers the program modules using appropriate teaching and learning and assessment methods. She oversees faculty in the English department and ensure effective planning, management, and review of the program. In addition, communicate program information to students and monitor their learning.
